OCUP UPDATES
  • The office of the Ontario Community-University Partnership (OCUP) will be moving to a new location at the end of June. We were fortunate to receive an offer to utilize space at Christian Business Development, and look forward to sharing an office with our longstanding partner. Our new address will be 123 W. "D" Street in Ontario. We will begin our move during the week of June 14. During the transition Marie and I will be accessible by:

email: marie_sandy@pitzer.edu or sandy_richards@pitzer.edu

phone: (909) 983-4233.

Although our email addresses will stay the same,
it is possible that our phone number will change after the move. However, we will be sure to send out an announcement to let you know of any changes.

  • OCUP  will have an abbreviated schedule for part of the summer. Beginning June 2 through July 16 the office will be open Tuesdays and Wednesdays only from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. We will go back to our regular schedule during the week of July 19.

  • Please note that the at-large meeting scheduled for June 3 has been cancelled, as we will be steadily preparing for our move. The next meeting will be held on September 14 at our new location. Stay tuned for more details about the meeting.

  • OCUP celebrated the graduation of 11 health promotoras on May 21. Over the past several months Susan Gomez and Ruth Mendoza (Montclair Por La Vida), with support from the Ontario Community-University Partnership and Christian Business Development, worked to develop the Ontario
"Promotora de Salud" program. A total of 11 women participated and completed the initial fourteen-week training program. These dynamic women will go on to develop their own promotoras groups this summer, throughout Ontario. Thank you to everyone who attended the graduation ceremony. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of all the volunteers.

  • Denise Palmer has been busy coordinating and implementing "Thrifty Living Workshops" at various locations throughout Ontario. Currently, Denise is also working on developing a "Thrifty Living Guide" that will provide helpful tips on shopping with coupons, finding sales and specials,
budgeting, and much more. The guide will be available this coming fall.

  • OCUP is continuing to distribute FREE copies of the new Ontario Family Health and Resource Directory to nonprofit organizations throughout Ontario and in our neighboring cities. We have just a few boxes remaining, so please contact us ASAP if you need copies of the directory for your
    agency/organization.

  • OCUP recently updated the partnership website to include an online version of the Ontario Family Health and Resource Directory. With this new online version, each organization will have the ability to update their contact information, as well as details regarding services provided and hours
of operation. We are still working out some "kinks" in the system, but once the online directory is ready we will provide each organization with a username and password to gain access.

  • The partnership website has also been updated to include maps of the following services listed in the Ontario Family Health and Resource Directory: medical clinics, housing - affordable housing, day care, food services, family services, hospitals, homeowner/rental assistance, and
    homeless/shelters/transitional housing.

  • OCUP is continuing to work on a number of research projects that will inform our outreach activities. One research project, which will be finalized this summer, examines best practices for affordable housing, both nationally and in the city of Ontario. We are also in the process of creating
a promotora manual to assist other groups who are interested in developing their own promotora programs.
